Certified Nursing Aides(CNAs) usually work in hospitals, rehabilitation centers, nursing homes or long term care settings under the supervision of an LPN or RN. There has been an increasing need for certified and hard working nurse aides in Tennessee. How should you go about it? Well in order to become a CNA in Tennessee, you are required to enroll into a CNA training course provided by the Tennessee Department of Health and on completion of it; you are required to challenge and pass the Nursing Competency Examination. Prior to enrolling into a CNA training program, you are required to take a criminal check and a wellness examination as required by law. In a typical CNA training program in Tennessee, you will have to attend class for a minimum of 75 hours that includes learning about nursing aide duties and 16 hours of it dedicated to clinical training in a medical facility.

The CNA training in Tennessee provides you the necessary skills and knowledge required to pass the state exam and moreover in your nursing career. These skills include fulfilling daily needs of the patients, keeping a clean environment for the residents, advanced skills like CPR, proper communication with disabled residents, keeping medical records, protecting resident rights and so on. After the completion of this training, you must challenge the Nursing Competency Examination. The exam consists of two parts: written and skill demonstration. The written part tests you on the knowledge gained during the class lectures. The skill demonstration part tests you on five basic nursing skills. You require at least 75% score to pass the written part while 80% to pass the skills demonstration part. Once you have a passing score, your name gets listed on the Tennessee Nurse Aide Registry and you are allowed to work as a CNA in Tennessee. If you are working as a CNA in Tennessee, you could expect to earn around $21,900 annually. There is a speculated 21% job growth in CNA and related positions during the next six years.
